10th Nevsky International Ecological Congress in St. Petersburg To Address Adaptation to Climate Change

The 10th anniversary Nevsky International Ecological Congress will be held in St. Petersburg on 25–26 May. One of the main themes of the Congress will be the climate agenda. Global climate change is impacting more and more areas of our lives. The roundtable ‘Climate: New Challenges of the Century’, which will be held on 25 May, will focus on ways to adapt to such environmental changes, interaction between the government, business, and society, and prospects and problems related to the development of ESG in Russia.

The event will be hosted by Chairman of the Committee on Agrarian Issues and Water and Land Resources of Tajikistan’s Supreme Assembly Rustam Latifzoda and Russian State Duma Deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov.

The expert discussion will be attended by Russian senators, representatives of the Russian presidential administration, the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the United Nations, and Russian and foreign representatives of science and business.

Based on the measures of the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change, which was approved in March 2023 by an order of the Russian government, Russia plans to create a special information resource with climate change scenarios. The plan also envisages the development of university programmes as well as professional retraining and advanced training programmes concerning climate risks. In addition, there is still a lot of work to do in the Arctic zone, where soil conditions within settlements will be monitored and proposals concerning technical regulation will be prepared based on the monitoring results.

“We are living in a period of serious climate change. Countries are ecologically dependent on each other, and environmental problems can only be solved by consolidating the efforts of the entire world community. Systematic work within the country is also needed, and our entire society needs to adapt to the new conditions, including all agencies and organizations, from government bodies to businesses. Repositioning activities in view of global changes is a meticulous job that requires synchronization and clear communication. I am certain that the 10th Nevsky Ecological Congress will serve as a platform for such a productive and effective dialogue and will raise key issues about cooperation to achieve common goals,” said Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the 10th Nevsky International Ecological Congress’s Organizing Committee.

The 10th anniversary Nevsky International Ecological Congress is being organized by the Russian Government, the Russian Federation Council, the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS Member Nations, and the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The Roscongress Foundation is in charge of preparing for and managing the event.

The business programme events will be broadcast on the official websites of the Nevsky International Ecological Congress, the Russian Federation Council, the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS Member Nations, the Roscongress Foundation, the Vmeste-RF TV channel, as well as the social media accounts of the Congress’s organizers.
