Transition to Digital: How to Make Ecology and IT Friends

Key themes:
• The development of modern digital technologies has made it possible to process huge amounts of information, including information that was originally presented in hard copy form. Data can also be obtained data in new ways, e.g., through the remote sensing of the earth using drones. Artificial intelligence often helps in the processing of information.
• There are currently 15 types of state environmental monitoring. However, only a few of them allow for direct instrumental measurements. The development of digital environmental monitoring is hampered by:
• the unavailability and lack of environmental information, particularly information collected in non-digital form
• the insufficient density of surveillance networks
• the lack of new ways of obtaining and processing data in legal documents
• the lack of domestic production equipment for environmental monitoring
• How will digital environmental monitoring develop in Russia?
• What best world practices in environmental monitoring can be used in Russia?
• What measures need to be taken to produce domestic environmental monitoring equipment?
• How should regulations be changed to enhance the range of environmental monitoring data?
• What barriers exist for the digitalization of environmental services?
• Use of artificial intelligence for biodiversity conservation and environmental protection

Circular Economy: The Perpetual Motion Machine in the World of Resources

Key themes:
• Caring for the environment is now becoming our daily habit. And what’s important is that an enormous amount of resources can be recycled. State support facilitates this in many ways. In 2022, the Circular Economy federal project was launched and the Russian government’s environmental block worked to change laws to support waste recycling. Industry programmes have also been developed. They will make it easier to involve recycled resources in the construction of housing and roads, industry, agriculture, and other industries.
• One of the most important goals of the circular economy is to minimize waste generation and reduce the amount of waste that cannot be recycled or is difficult to recycle. This is also crucial to protect the oceans from plastic pollution. More than eight million tonnes of plastic are deposited in the ocean every year.
• What are the main focuses of the state policy to develop a circular economy in Russia?
• What best world practices can Russia use to transition to a circular economy?
• What anti-crisis measures should be taken to ensure industry growth in the new realities?
• What state support measures are needed to accelerate the development of a separate waste collection system?
• What measures should be taken to provide industry with technologies and components as part of import substitution?
• The problem of microplastics in the ocean: are solutions possible at the legislative level?

Eco-Enlightenment. The Future through the Eyes of Children

Key themes:
• The transition to conscious consumption and the development of environmental thinking is the foundation for Russia’s safe green future. As such, getting the younger generation involved in an environmental culture has become one of the main focuses of the current environmental agenda, because the everyday habits and principles established in childhood determine the behaviour of adults, who in 15–20 years will create the new horizons for sustainable development.
• It can already be seen today that eco-thinking is becoming a basic skill of the modern individual and that environmental education and enlightenment provide a solid foundation for this. The system of environmental education and enlightenment is becoming an integrating factor that dictates the future development of the country’s ecological culture.
• How can we form a unified system of continuous environmental education? What is the best way to integrate the system of environmental education and vocational guidance into the economy and public administration? The quality of environmental education is a component of the state’s environmental security system. What is the role of legislative regulation in the professional training and retraining of specialists whose activities are related to the environment?

Eco-Volunteering being on Guard of Nature

Key themes:
• Eco-activism has become a popular movement, especially among young people. When the government and business are limited in their ability to solve environmental problems, volunteers come to the rescue. The promotion of environmental responsibility, the fostering of awareness among the population, as well as joint actions to combat environmental pollution require the involvement of every institution of society.
• Eco-activism needs both administrative and financial support to achieve its goals more effectively. Unifying the forces of the state, business, and the population will provide an impetus to creating a new consumption culture, developing collective environmental thinking, preserving the environment.
• How can we young people involved in environmental projects? What role do young people play in implementing Russia’s environmental initiatives? Making everyday life greener: how can you make your consciousness and everyday behaviour green? Why is up to all of to conserve nature and engage in environmental activities? How can we make environmental volunteering appealing to the Russian public?
